- The IMO adopted Resolutions MSC.404(96) and MSC.402(96) on 19 May 2016. These resolutions introduce amendments to SOLAS regulations III/3 and III/20 and set new requirements for the maintenance and testing of lifesaving appliances. These measures will take effect on 1 January 2020. Furthermore, this Administration adopted them through Resolution No. 107-OMI-209-DGMM on 18 July 2019. As a result, all parties must comply with the updated regulatory and operational standards.
- From 1 January 2020, the annual and five-year examinations of lifeboats and rescue equipment must follow the new rules. These activities include the testing, repair, and overhaul of lifeboats, rescue boats, fast rescue boats, and associated launching appliances. They also cover on-load and off-load release gear, including systems used for free-fall lifeboats and davit-launched liferafts. Moreover, all such work shall be carried out only by service providers authorized by the Administration. This ensures full compliance with the updated safety requirements.
