Annual Inspection of Rescue Boat & Launching Appliance – MBK Port, Abu Dhabi
The annual statutory inspection of the rescue boat and its launching appliance was carried out at MBK Port, Abu Dhabi, in accordance with applicable safety regulations and class requirements.
The inspection covered a detailed mechanical examination of the davit structure, hoisting winch, wire ropes, sheaves, brake assembly, shafts, and load-bearing connections. Internal components of the winch brake system were dismantled and inspected to verify lining condition, spring tension, wear limits, corrosion levels, and correct reassembly.
Functional testing included controlled lowering and recovery of the rescue boat, confirming smooth hoisting performance, effective braking action, and safe load control throughout the operating range. Emergency release and recovery procedures were also verified to ensure dependable response under simulated operational conditions.
Particular attention was given to marine-exposed interfaces, fasteners, and structural contact points, where signs of corrosion and wear were assessed against acceptance criteria. All movements remained stable and predictable, confirming the appliance’s readiness for emergency deployment.
The inspection validated that both the rescue boat and launching appliance are operationally sound, compliant, and fit for continued service, reinforcing confidence in safety-critical systems designed to protect lives at sea.
