Main Engine Safety Shutdown Troubleshooting & Testing – Dubai Maritime City
Troubleshooting and diagnostic inspection of the main engine safety shutdown system were carried out following reported alarm and shutdown indications. Initial checks were performed on the port and starboard main engine control panels, including verification of power supply status, alarm annunciation, and local/remote selector functionality. Control panel indications and fault logs were reviewed to identify active and historical alarms.
Detailed testing was conducted on the safety shutdown circuits, covering emergency stop loops, pressure and temperature protection devices, and interlock logic. Lube oil pressure switches, control air pressure switches, and related wiring continuity were inspected and tested for correct set points and response. Shutdown signals were confirmed to be correctly transmitted to the engine control system under simulated fault conditions.
The engine monitoring and alarm system was further verified by functional testing of audible and visual alarms, buzzer stop, alarm acknowledge, and lamp test functions. Relay logic, terminal connections, and panel wiring inside the control cabinet were inspected for tightness, signs of overheating, and insulation condition. No abnormalities were observed during panel internal inspection.
Following rectification and confirmation of system integrity, full functional testing was carried out in both local and remote control modes. All safety devices operated as designed, with immediate and correct shutdown response upon activation. The main engine safety shutdown system was confirmed to be fully operational and compliant with vessel safety requirements, and the system was released for normal service.
