Steering Gear System Overhaul & Testing – Rashid Port, Dubai

We carried out a complete overhauling and testing of the vessel’s hydraulic steering gear system. The steering cylinder had been showing signs of internal leakage and reduced responsiveness, so we proceeded with a full strip-down to evaluate the condition of all internal components.

We dismantled the Ultraflex hydraulic cylinder, inspected the rod, seals, valve block, and chambers, and replaced the worn sealing elements. Our team cleaned and polished the actuator rods and verified that all fittings were free from corrosion or structural damage. After completing the overhaul, we reassembled the cylinder and installed it back into the engine compartment.

With the unit mounted, we reconnected the hydraulic lines and carried out a thorough bleeding procedure to eliminate any trapped air. During the subsequent sea-trial steering check, the system delivered smooth, precise, and stable response—confirming the success of our overhaul and the restoration of proper steering performance.
