Annual Inspection of Free-Fall Lifeboat & Rescue Boat Systems – Hamriyah Port

We successfully completed the vessel’s annual inspection of the free-fall lifeboat and rescue boat launching systems at Hamriyah Port. These inspections are essential for maintaining operational readiness and ensuring that all lifesaving appliances perform dependably in the event of an emergency. The work involved a thorough review of the mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components, along with functional testing under controlled conditions.

As part of the rescue boat evaluation, a full operational test was performed on the Yamaha 25HP four-stroke outboard engine. Cooling flow, throttle response, and gear shifting were verified through a controlled run, while safety interlocks, linkages, and steering systems were lubricated and inspected for proper function. The rescue boat’s davit and hoisting arrangement were also checked to confirm smooth rotation, reliable lowering performance, and proper brake operation.

The hydraulic systems received detailed attention, including pressure verification, actuator performance checks, and valve integrity assessment. During the inspection, we identified wear on one of the rotating hydraulic components, and a replacement has been recommended to ensure future reliability. Several lubrication points were refreshed, and minor surface corrosion on the davit housing was noted for upcoming touch-up maintenance.

The free-fall lifeboat launch frame also underwent structural inspection to confirm alignment, hinge integrity, and release mechanism condition. Load-free operational testing showed smooth movements and proper engagement of the manual override system. Gas-charged cylinder pressure was inspected and found to be within safe operating limits, ensuring dependable activation during emergency deployment.

These inspections serve as an important reminder that safety at sea is built on consistency, preparation, and attention to detail. Ensuring that lifesaving equipment is properly maintained not only supports regulatory compliance but also protects the well-being of everyone onboard.
