Main Engine Exhaust Gas Temperature Monitoring Restored – Khalid Port, Sharjah
The vessel’s EGT monitoring system was operating with multiple critical deficiencies
Open channels, failed sensing elements, and obsolete OEM sensors with non-standard specifications, no longer supported or available.
Technical Intervention
- Reverse-engineered existing sensor specifications and input requirements
- Designed and supplied custom-built temperature sensors (RTD/Thermocouple based on channel configuration)
- Fabricated compatible thermowells considering insertion length, process connection, and material grade
- Ensured signal compatibility with AMS input modules (mV / 4–20 mA as applicable)
System Reinstatement
- Re-established all temperature measurement channels across engine cylinders
- Loop checking, insulation resistance verification, and continuity testing completed
- Calibration carried out via AMS with channel-wise scaling and linearization
- Alarm setpoints verified for high-temperature and deviation logic
Performance Outcome
- Accurate real-time EGT monitoring across all units
- Restored alarm integrity for early fault detection (overheating, injector issues, imbalance)
- Improved diagnostic capability for cylinder performance and load distribution
- Compliance aligned with class and safety monitoring requirements
Engineering Value
Reinstating a fully functional EGT monitoring system is essential for preventing thermal overload, identifying combustion inefficiencies, and ensuring safe engine operation under varying load conditions.
Extended Capabilities
- AMS Retrofit & Upgrade Solutions
- Sensor Standardization & Signal Conversion
- PLC/AMS Integration & I/O Mapping
- Commissioning, Sea Trial Support & Documentation
