Subsea Crane & Man-Riding Load Test – Blue Gulf Shipyard, Abu Dhabi
- Location: Abu Dhabi | Blue Gulf Shipyard, UAE
An emergency load testing operation for a subsea crane and man-riding system was successfully carried out in full compliance with client requirements and approved procedures.
Prior to execution, a comprehensive inspection was conducted, including verification of all relevant documentation to ensure adherence to applicable standards and operational readiness.
- Subsea Crane Load Test
The crane was tested at its rated Safe Working Load (SWL) of 75 tons, demonstrating stable and reliable performance under simulated operational conditions.
- Man-Riding Load Test (Personnel Transfer)
The man-riding hook was tested at an SWL of 1.5 tons. All critical safety features—including automatic braking, emergency lowering, and slack line protection—were thoroughly verified and confirmed to be fully functional.
Both subsea and man-riding modes were successfully validated. The crane performed within its designated SWL limits with no abnormalities observed, confirming its readiness for safe and efficient operation.
- Why This Matters
Subsea cranes are essential for offshore operations, enabling precise installation, maintenance, and recovery tasks on the seabed—often supported by advanced systems such as Active Heave Compensation (AHC). Man-riding capability further ensures safe personnel handling in high-risk environments, making rigorous testing and certification critical.
The crane has successfully met all testing requirements and is recommended for issuance of the relevant certification.
