Pedestal Crane Load Test – Hamriyah Port, Sharjah
A comprehensive load test was successfully completed on the pedestal crane main hook under both onboard and offboard operating conditions, validating performance across the full operational envelope.
Test Scope & Execution
- Load testing was carried out at three defined working radii in each mode, as per the crane load chart and OEM specifications
- Proof loads were applied in accordance with SWL criteria and relevant class/industry standards
- Testing covered the full operational range, including both static and dynamic load conditions
Pre-Test Inspection
- Structural integrity of boom, pedestal, and slewing ring was verified
- Wire ropes, sheaves, hooks, and safety latches were inspected for compliance and wear
- Hydraulic systems, including cylinders and hoses, were checked for pressure stability
- Functional testing of limit switches, emergency stops, and safety interlocks was completed
Operational Verification
- Hoisting performance was evaluated with brake holding tests under load
- Luffing operations were assessed for smooth radius variation and load stability
- Slewing system was tested for full rotation, alignment, and control response
- No abnormal vibration, deflection, or hydraulic pressure drop was observed
Definitions
- Onboard: Lifting within vessel/deck operational zone
- Offboard: Lifting beyond vessel limits (jetty, supply boat, or sea transfer)
The crane performed safely and efficiently across all tested parameters, confirming compliance with SWL limits and operational safety across varying radii and modes.
The approval certificate was issued upon completion of final verification and documentation.
