Questions and answers
14 free courses, 115 lessons. Here is how it works.
Courses
Are the courses free?
Yes. Every course is free. Lesson 1 of each course is open to everyone. A free account opens the other lessons and saves your progress.
How long does a course take?
Most courses take one and a half to two and a half hours, in lessons of 10 to 20 minutes. You can stop at any point and carry on later.
Does it work on my phone or a slow connection?
Yes. The pages are light and work on any phone. 3D models only download when you open them.
Which language are the courses in?
English, in plain words. Each lesson starts with a short primer that explains the key terms.
Who writes the courses?
The service engineers of the Al Safwan Marine group, who inspect this equipment on board. Each lesson lists the rules and sources it is based on.
Your account
Why do I need an account?
To open every lesson, keep your progress on any device and get your certificate. We only ask for your email.
How do I sign in without a password?
Enter your email. We send you a 6-digit code and a sign-in link. Type the code on the page you are on, or open the link.
Will you send me emails?
Only about your learning: your sign-in code, a reminder if you stop halfway through a course, and your certificate. You can turn reminders off in Settings.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, at any time, in Settings. Your progress and certificates are deleted with it.
Certificates
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. You get a certificate of completion with your name, the course and the date when every lesson is done and, where the course has one, the final quiz is passed.
Is it an STCW certificate?
No. It is a certificate of completion from Al Safwan Academy. It is not an STCW, flag-approved or maker's certificate, and it says so.
How can someone check my certificate?
Each certificate has its own code and web link. Anyone with the link can see that it is real.
What if my name is wrong on my certificate?
Email us and we will correct it. The code and the link stay the same.
Companies
Can my company track crew progress?
Not yet. Team tracking is being built. Register your interest on the For companies page and we will tell you first.
What will it cost companies?
Company prices are not set yet. Every course is free for anyone today.
